Drilling Rig Masts Types
The drilling rig mast, equipped with a crownblock, constitutes together with the travelling block and the drawworks, the load handling system, supporting the load during the work and allowing through its construction the lowering and raising of the drill string or tubing column.
It is a welded metal construction, profiled transversely in a “U” shape, made of pipe ( square, rectangular, round ) or open profiles. It can be double ( with two sections ) or single ( with one section ) depending on its length. Putting the mast up and down, as well as its telescoping is done hydraulically.
The mast is anchored with a set of resistant anchors to the chassis of the rig and with a set of external ground safety anchors. It is transported in a horizontal position above the cabin of the chassis and the rig equipment, having a support in the front, while in the back relying on its fixed section.
Oil Rig Substructure Functions
Folding parallelogram type drilling rig substructures are complex metal constructions consisting of welded subassemblies, easy to assemble / disassemble, assembled by fork-tongue-bolt system joints, equipped with substructure folding device, access stairs and panels, which ensures the movement of service personnel between the derrick floor, the ground, and the rod ramp, in conditions of work safety.
The oil rig substructure is intended for:
- Supporting the rotary table and taking over its loads;
- Taking over the loads of the drill rods;
- It constitutes the working platform around the rotary table, ensuring the circulation of the service personnel, the location of the command, control, and handling devices, as well as the storage of the drilling tools and equipment.
